Former Councillors and Past Leader recognised at Council Ceremony
Four Former Hyndburn Mayors were this week presented with their Alderman Badge at a small ceremony at Accrington Town Hall.
In June 2024, Hyndburn Council decided to confer the title of Honorary Alderman on Mr Mohammad Ayub, Mr Timothy O’Kane, Mrs Colette McCormack and Mr Terry Hurn, all having lengthy and distinguished former service with the Council and all being former Mayors of the Borough, thereby having rendered eminent services to the Council.
Earlier this week, the Mayor of Hyndburn, Councillor Mike Booth presented them with a badge as a token of their award.

Councillor Munsif Dad, Leader of the Council said:
“It is with great pride and gratitude that we honour Mr Mohammad Ayub, Mrs Colette McCormack, Mr Timothy O’Kane, and Mr Terry Hurn with these badges. Their dedication and service to our community have been exemplary.
Mr Ayub’s 16 years of commitment to the Central ward and his leadership as Mayor in 2018/19 have left a lasting impact, and he continues to act as a community leader.
Mrs McCormack’s 8 years of service to the Immanuel ward and her tenure as Mayor in 2011/12 have been marked by her compassion and dedication towards her residents.
Mr O’Kane’s 21 years of service to the Clayton-le-Moors ward and his Mayoral year in 2016/17 have enriched our community and I have many fond memories of working closely with Tim.
Mr Hurn’s 14 years of service to the Baxenden ward, his role in business and his recent role as Mayor in 2023/24 have demonstrated his commitment to our town.
We are grateful for their contributions and proud to recognise them as honorary aldermen.”
At the same ceremony, Councillor Marlene Haworth was also honoured with the esteemed ‘Past Leaders Badge’ in recognition of her dedicated service to the community.

The badge was bestowed upon her by Councillor Zak Khan, Leader of the Conservative Group at Hyndburn Council. He said:
“As one of many roles over the years as a Councillor, Marlene Haworth served Hyndburn as Leader of the Council with dedication and distinction; with lots of personality and a touch of humour!
A much-loved figure by officers and colleagues across political divides, Marlene demonstrated how the role could be done the right way. It took personal sacrifice and commitment, that has rightfully gained huge respect by those who worked alongside her. We are lucky in that Marlene continues to play an active role as a Councillor, in our party, and regularly keeps me in line having taken over as Group Leader this year under her guidance and support.”
Councillor Marlene Haworth continues to represent the residents of St. Oswald’s Ward and has served as a Hyndburn Councillor for 19 years, including as Leader of the Council in 2023/24.
