Hyndburn Council allocates funding for new artificial cricket wicket in Great Harwood
Hyndburn Borough Council has allocated funding for a new artificial cricket wicket after strong demand from local residents.
£50,000 was allocated by the Council at its budget setting meeting last month, to be funded via Pride In Place Impact Funding, a £1.5 million UK Government programme.
The funding is one of numerous allocations aimed at improving access to sports and physical activity for Hyndburn residents, with other initiatives including a new Sport and Club Development Officer post and capital funding for play area refurbishments and improvements at Bullough Park.

Councillor Munsif Dad, Leader of the Council said:
“Improving access to sports facilities has been a key priority of the Council. Artificial cricket wickets have proved popular in other areas of the borough, and there has been a lot of public interest in bringing a similar facility to Great Harwood.
We are currently exploring options for the most suitable site in Great Harwood and hope to get work started later this year.”
Councillor Jodi Clements, Netherton Ward Councillor said:
“After listening to feedback from residents, I’ve been pushing for new options for activities for young people in our area, and I’m really pleased that this is now becoming a reality. With the new pump track on Game Street, our young people will soon have a wider range of things to enjoy here in Great Harwood. I can’t wait to see it completed.”
The Pride in Place Impact Fund is a UK Government programme intended to deliver visible improvements to high streets and improve places and spaces valued by local communities. Hyndburn will receive £1.5million to be committed to projects before March 2027.
