Hyndburn Council awards Cabinet Action Fund grants to local grassroots sports clubs

Five community sports clubs across Hyndburn are set to benefit from the latest round of Cabinet Action Fund grants, with funding awarded to projects that will improve facilities, increase participation and support grassroots sport.

Great Harwood Cricket and Sports Club has been awarded £1,000 to support the continued growth of its women’s cricket section by helping to cover essential expenses associated with the growth of the team, including match fees, coaching costs, and cricket equipment.

Huncoat United Junior Football Club will receive £1,250 to help repair and replace equipment extensively damaged following a burst water pipe during the winter.

Accrington Cricket & Tennis Club has been awarded £3,500 to replace a damaged cricket cage and repair storm-damaged roll-on covers, benefiting junior, women, and senior players.

Oswaldtwistle Immanuel Church Cricket Club will receive £1,350 towards improving their practice facilities for all age groups, including new cricket training equipment.

Great Harwood Rovers Football Club has been awarded £1,075 to replace its community-accessible defibrillator, ensuring the club continues to provide this vital lifesaving equipment for players, volunteers and local residents.

Jonathan Hayhurst, Management Chairman at Accrington Cricket and Tennis Club said:

“The Council grant will make a huge difference to the club and its training session when delivering cricket sessions for girls and boys all ages. This means we can really increase the numbers who are training and develop all our juniors to become much better players. This funding will also help us repair the roll on covers after storm damage and vandalism which made them leak and difficult to move meaning pitches getting wet and games being called off due to an unfit playing surface. The repairs and new covering will make a massive difference to the club keeping the game on. Massive thanks go to the council for their support which means we can continue to support our local community.”

Mark Sheridan, Vice Chairman of Great Harwood Rovers Football Club said:

This lifesaving piece of equipment has now been upgraded, ensuring it remains ready to provide vital support in emergency situations. The upgrade will benefit the football club, all of its members, and the wider local community. The Council’s support is greatly appreciated and will help make a real difference to the safety and wellbeing of everyone who uses our facilities.”

Councillor Munsif Dad, Leader of the Council, said:

“Our local sports clubs play a vital role in communities across Hyndburn, bringing people together, encouraging healthier lifestyles and providing opportunities for residents of all ages. Through the Cabinet Action Fund, we’re pleased to support projects that will strengthen these organisations, improve facilities and ensure they can continue serving their local communities for many years to come.”

Councillor Jodi Clements, Portfolio Holder for Communities, Education and Skills said:

“These projects demonstrate the incredible commitment of volunteers and community organisations across Hyndburn. From improving training facilities and replacing essential equipment to ensuring access to lifesaving defibrillators, these grants will help clubs continue to provide safe, welcoming and inclusive environments for local people.”

The Cabinet Action Fund is a budget dedicated to addressing community needs and supporting local service providers. This fund is part of the Council’s ongoing commitment to help local organisations who provide support for Hyndburn residents.
