Leader’s Viewpoint: Cllr Munsif Dad June 2025
Leader’s Viewpoint: Cllr Munsif Dad June 2025
As we move through a busy summer here in Hyndburn, I want to take a moment to reflect on some of the incredible events and achievements we’ve seen this month so far.
Over the weekend, two Council-funded events returned to Accrington, with EcoFest and Community Solution’s Summer Fair both seeing great turnouts. Earlier this month, another major highlight was the Accrington Food and Drink Festival, which marked its 10th anniversary and saw over 8,000 people turning out—despite the classic Lancashire weather!
These events, alongside our ongoing support for culture, sport and heritage, are a key part of the Council’s work to make Hyndburn a place where people want to live, visit and invest. That’s why I’m excited to say that the coming weekend promises even more celebration, with Hyndburn Sound and the Accrington Carnival returning in full swing. The Carnival, now celebrating its 100th anniversary, is a particularly incredible milestone. Few local traditions can claim such a rich and enduring history, and I know many residents are eagerly looking forward to it.
In addition to our event programme, I’d like to highlight two major developments that set a strong course for our borough’s future. Last week, the Council formally approved a new Culture and Heritage Strategy, which outlines an ambitious five-year vision to harness our rich heritage and creative potential during the ongoing regeneration of Hyndburn. This plan will guide investments and projects that support local artists, celebrate our shared history, and make culture more accessible across Hyndburn.
The Council have also established a new Neighbourhood Board that will be central to shaping how we invest up to £20 million of government funding into Accrington. The Board’s work will build upon the momentum we’ve already seen in recent years and ensure the investment is focused on the priorities that matter most to local people, whether that’s improving town centre spaces, boosting employment, or creating opportunities for our young people.
As many of you will have seen, the new Leader and Cabinet for 2025/26 has now been confirmed. I’m proud to continue serving as Leader, supported by a strong team of Cabinet Members who bring passion and commitment to every portfolio. Full details of the new Cabinet and their responsibilities can be found here: Hyndburn Borough Council Leader and Cabinet Announced
Finally, I’d like to encourage everyone to join us for Armed Forces Day on Monday 23rd June on Church Street in Accrington. This annual event is an opportunity to show our appreciation for our serving personnel, veterans and their families. As always, it promises to be a moving and memorable occasion.
