Nature to Return to Bullough Park after Motorbike Nuisance is Tackled

An exciting enhancement project will soon be getting underway for Bullough Park, Accrington as the green space will benefit from new enhancements to make the park a safer and more appealing space for all to enjoy.

Thanks to funding from Lancashire Partnership Against Crime (LANPAC), new gateways and boundary fencing will be installed at key points in the park, including near Woodview Drive and behind the “Top Shop” on Willows Lane.

These upgrades, alongside increased patrols in the area by the Neighbourhood Policing team, will help alleviate public nuisance issues by preventing unauthorised motorbikes from entering the park, making it a safer and more peaceful space for local residents.

Cllr Kimberley Whitehead, Portfolio Holder for Community Safety, said:

“Bullough Park is a vital part of our community, and these improvements will make it a much more enjoyable place to visit. We are fully committed to addressing issues such as antisocial behaviour, particularly the ongoing motorbike nuisance, which has affected the park for too long. By implementing these improvements, we are aiming to create a safer, more accessible environment where everyone can make the most of our beautiful green spaces and enjoy the full benefits of the park.”

Mathew Gill, Police Community Support Officer, said:

“We’re pleased to be working alongside Hyndburn Borough Council and our partners to help make Bullough Park a safer and more inviting place to spend time. Our focus is to ensure the park is safe and accessible, and we will continue to support local residents by tackling any anti-social behaviour, including motorbike nuisance.”

The improvements come as part of a wider TreeACTION community woodland programme. In addition to the new gateways, the wider project will bring a range of comprehensive enhancement features to the park, including: woodland planting with an attractive range of native broadleaf trees and shrubs, wildflower meadows, and wetland habitat areas. New, accessible footpaths will also be built, making the park more inclusive for people of all abilities and include viewpoints to the stunning surrounding landscape.  Local people are very supportive of the proposals and are looking forward to enjoying the enhanced natural spaces to be created.

Cllr Munsif Dad, Leader of the Council, said:

“This ongoing project is all about enhancing the local area to make it the best it can be for residents and visitors to the area. It is fantastic to see opportunities like this one that enables local people to get involved and spend time out in the natural spaces of Hyndburn, supporting the wellbeing of local people, the natural environment and the Council’s Climate Action initiatives. The improvements will certainly offer something for everyone, from wildlife lovers to families enjoying a day out.”

The project is supported by joint working between Hyndburn Borough Council, Lancashire Constabulary, the Prospects Foundation and Proffitts C.I.C. community design team.

Do your bit for positive climate action.  Volunteers are encouraged to help with the tree planting, and there will be many family-friendly activities planned throughout the project. For more information or to get involved, please contact info@prospectsfoundation.org.uk
