Statement from Cllr Munsif Dad BEM JP, Leader of Hyndburn Borough Council

At yesterday’s meeting of full council, I welcomed what appeared to be a further £20 million investment for Accrington. Having now reviewed the government’s detailed guidance, I want to provide clarity.

Accrington has already secured £20 million over ten years, specifically for the town, through the government’s Plan for Neighbourhoods programme. The announcement made this week under the new Pride in Place Strategy does not provide an additional £20 million. Instead, Hyndburn has been awarded £1.5 million over two years from the Pride in Place Impact Fund.

This fund is designed to deliver immediate, visible improvements — including enhancements to shared spaces, high streets and public areas.

We are pleased to receive this further support. The additional £1.5 million will allow us to make practical short-term improvements across the borough, while we continue to plan and invest for the long term with the original £20 million for Accrington.
