Thirteen Individuals to be recognised with borough honours
Hyndburn Borough Council is set to honour thirteen individuals with civic honours, after their nominations were supported at a Special Council meeting on 26th March.
Pam Barton, Saeeda Farooq, Dave Parkins, Gwen Mayor, Mohammed Yaseen, Marlene Harworth, Anne Ellwood, Tracy Simmonds, Barbara Fielding and Judith Addison will be bestowed with the Freedom of the Borough at the Council’s Mayor Making Meeting on 20th June. The title of Honorary Freeman of the Borough is the highest civic honour a local council in the UK can bestow upon an individual.
Of those to be recognised for their commitment to Hyndburn, three will be done so posthumously for the first time in the history of the borough. Those are Pam Barton, Gwen Mayor, and former Leader of the Councillor Marlene Haworth, who passed away earlier this year.
To qualify for appointment as a freeman, recipients must be persons of distinction; or persons who have, in the opinion of the Council, rendered eminent services to that place or area.
Dorothy Westell, Susan Haworth and June Harrison will be bestowed with the title of Honorary Alderman, an award reserved for those who have rendered eminent services to the Council as a past member of the Council.
Councillor Munsif Dad, Leader of the Council said:
“We are immensely proud to recognise these thirteen remarkable individuals whose dedication, compassion and service have shaped Hyndburn for the better. Each one has contributed something truly special to our borough, and it will be an honour to watch them, and in some cases their families, receive these well deserved awards in June. Their achievements stand as an inspiration to us all, and I look forward to celebrating their lasting impact on our community.”
Councillor Zak Khan, Leader of the Opposition said:
“We are proud to recognise those who go above and beyond for our communities and dedicate so much of themselves in service to others. As a Council, we have a responsibility to highlight and celebrate that commitment. Over the next twelve months, I intend to make it a priority for us to seek out more people who quietly make a difference, who don’t look for praise, but whose contribution deserves to be acknowledged in the years ahead. Everyone named today has earned this recognition in their own right, and we look forward to honouring them.”
