20th September 2024 – Today, Hyndburn Council were informed that ISG, the lead contractor on the Council’s Wilson Sport Village construction project, has filed a notice to enter administration. We understand that this news may cause concern, and we want to provide information on the situation.

The Council’s contract for the development works at the Wilson Sports Village site is with Alliance Leisure, with ISG being their main construction contractor. Alliance Leisure has assured us that they are in a strong trading position and will follow their protocols to minimise disruption and ensure the continuity of the project.

ISG is a national company and many large projects up and down the country, including Wilson Sport Village, will likely be affected.

The Council recognises the hard work and dedication of the construction team at Wilson Sport Village and extend our empathy to all ISG employees and any subcontractors who are currently affected.

The Council are committed to working with Alliance Leisure to ensure a smooth transition during this difficult period.

Once we have a clearer understanding of Alliance Leisure’s plan, we will be able to provide further updates.

24th September 2024 – Following on from the recent announcement that ISG have entered administration, the Council has now met with Alliance Leisure to establish a way forward for the development at the Wilson Playing Fields Site.

ISG is a national construction company who were undertaking many large projects for the government and large corporations across the country and their recent administration will likely affect many sectors and their respective supply chains nationally.

Alliance Leisure are prioritising preparations for the successful restart of the project.  They are following necessary protocols in conjunction with Ernst & Young, the appointed administrators to ensure the following:

  • That the site is safe and secure.
  • Sports clubs and groups can continue to use the existing facilities as normal.
  • An Action Plan is produced to inform the Council on the key steps required to restart the project.

The Council and Alliance Leisure are focusing efforts on getting the construction site operational and place great emphasis on minimising impact and disruption to the programme to deliver the project as planned.

Further updates will be shared in due course.

30th October 2024 – Since the announcement of ISG filing notice to enter administration on 20th September 2024, the Council has been working closely with Alliance Leisure Ltd to establish a way forward for the development at the Wilson Playing Fields Site.

Following on from the necessary steps in conjunction with Alliance Leisure and their engagement with Ernst & Young, the appointed administrators, the Council has formerly taken back control of the construction site and is ensuring the site is safe and secure. The project team comprising officers from the Council and Alliance Leisure have been focusing efforts on getting the construction site operational and place great emphasis on minimising impact and disruption to the programme to continue to deliver the project.

The Council and Alliance Leisure have made good progress in identifying possible contractors to complete the project. It is expected that a further update will be known by the end of November and this will be discussed and reported back to Cabinet.

Great efforts have been undertaken to work towards a resolution that will hopefully result in the recommencement of works in early 2025.

In the meantime, other facilities at Wilson Playing Fields are still in use including the athletics track, sports pitches and the popular parkrun.
