Wilson Sports Village Construction reaches next milestone

This week saw an important milestone in the construction at Wilson Sports Village, the new leisure facility in Clayton-Le-Moors due for completion in autumn this year. The project, funded by Hyndburn Borough Council and Sport England will see the construction of the facility including swimming pool, gym, studio, club and cafe facilities, dry and wet changing facilities and more in Clayton-Le-Moors.

The pavilion, which was dedicated on Sunday 24th March 1974 by Mrs Margaret Wilson, in memory of her husband, Arthur, who was the Clerk of Clayton-Le-Moors Urban District Council from 1938-1972 was demolished. The pavilion has been used as a changing and group room for 50 years by sports clubs across the borough. However, after much use over the years the pavilion had reached the end of its useable life. The new leisure centre will incorporate modern changing and club rooms for the many clubs who use the outdoor pitches, track and other facilities at the site. Temporary Facilities have been established for clubs currently using the site until the main facility is complete.

Louise Greenwood of Hyndburn Parkrun said:

“Since we began in 2017, 7181 people have finished 316 parkrun events at Wilson Playing Fields. Many of our runners have made use of the facilities at the pavilion. We are pleased that temporary facilities have been put in place until construction of Wilson Sports Village is complete and look forward to using the new facilities when complete.”
