How can I claim Housing Benefit and Council Tax support?

Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support can be claimed online using the Council’s e-claim.

Please remember that you can only claim Housing Benefit if one of the following categories applies to you:

    1. You and your partner are both state pension credit age. If you are not sure, you can check your state pension age online.
    2. You live in temporary or supported accommodation.

If you do not fall into any of these categories, then you must apply for Universal Credit for help with your rent.

If you make a claim for Universal Credit, you must tell the Department for Work and Pensions that you want to claim Council Tax Support at the same time as your Universal Credit claim.

If you do not tell the Department for Work and Pensions that you want to apply for Council Tax support then you must apply to us separately using the online link in the previous paragraph.
