Friends of Memorial Park

The Friends of Memorial Park formed in the summer of 2003 in response to a large redevelopment programme of the playing fields.

The group hold regular meetings which are open to the public and organise a number of events in the park throughout the year. These events range from planting and litter picking activities, tree dressing, outdoor theatre and plays, a treasure hunt to a series of ‘ the Prom in the Park’.

 

The Prospects Foundation

Extensive work has been carried out with the help of the local Environmental Charity the Prospects Foundation to help management the park in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way. Working with volunteers habitat management has been carried out including controlling none native species and helping to manage areas of grassland to increase bio-diversity. Also helping local people to interact and learn more about the local natural heritage through guided nature walks including bat and bird watching walks.

 

The Lancashire Wildlife Trust

The Lancashire Wildlife Trust have a keen interest in the park and in particular Roundwood due to the woods Biological Heritage Status, acknowledging its importance at county level. They have helped advise on activities within the wood and help arrange ecological surveys of the area.

 

Proffitts C.I.C.

Proffitts C.I.C. have project managed recent improvements to the park and helped local people engage with the park’s restoration through a series of initiatives starting in 2023 including:

  • The refurbishment of the war memorial and formal are of the park.
  • The restoration of the park’s heritage features.
  • Working with local artists and historians to help the local schools and community better understand the parks history and environmental heritage.
