Hyndburn Borough Council Invites Event Organisers to Apply for 2027/28 Grants

Hyndburn Borough Council is inviting local organisations and event organisers to apply for funding to deliver an exciting programme of events across the borough between 1st April 2027 and 31st March 2028.

This year, the Council is seeking proposals for events that aim to bring people together, celebrate Hyndburn’s communities and create more reasons for residents and visitors to enjoy the borough’s high streets, parks and public spaces. Proposals should help to attract people from across Hyndburn, East Lancashire and the wider North West, while showcasing the borough’s diverse culture, heritage, businesses and communities.

Cllr Kate Walsh, Portfolio Holder for Cultures, Heritage, and Arts, said:

“This past year has shown just how much people value having fantastic events on their doorstep. From the crowds enjoying the Accrington Food Festival and the excitement of the Soapbox Challenge, to the fantastic atmosphere at new events like Proms in the Park, our events programme has provided something for people of all ages and interests.”

“Events like these are a great way to put Hyndburn on the map, support local businesses and performers, and build a real sense of pride in our towns and communities. We’re looking forward to seeing what organisers come forward with for the 2027/28 programme.”

Event organisers will be responsible for securing all necessary permissions, licences, insurance, and safety measures. There is no charge for using Council-owned land.

The Council aims to award several grants across a range of categories, helping to create a varied programme of events for communities and visitors to enjoy. Event categories include:

  • Food Festival (Summer 2027)
  • Active Environment & Sport (2027/28)
  • Soapbox Challenge (Summer 2027)
  • Traffic Management for a Carnival and Procession
  • Culture, Heritage & Arts
  • Accrington Christmas Light Switch-On Events
  • Townships Christmas Light Switch-On Events
  • Great Harwood Winter Event
  • Other events not covered by the above categories

The 2026/27 programme has already delivered a wide range of successful events across the borough. Alongside established favourites such as the Accrington Food Festival and Soapbox Challenge, the programme has welcomed new events to the line-up including Proms in the Park at Rhyddings Park, which brought music and entertainment to Oswaldtwistle, and Great Harwood Stock, a new music event at Mercer Hall.

The return of local favourites like Hyndburn Sound and Connecting Cultures have played key roles in celebrating the borough’s music, culture and diverse communities, as well as a whole host of festive events and light switch-on events yet to come.

Applications for the 2027/28 programme are now open, and Hyndburn Council is encouraging organisations with ideas for events across the borough to come forward.
