Meet the Mayor of Hyndburn
Councillor Terry Hurn was elected as Mayor of Hyndburn for the Municipal Year 2023/24 at the Council’s AGM on Thursday 18 May 2023.
Councillor Hurn has served as a Borough Councillor in the Baxenden Ward for almost 13 years and was elected to the County Council in 2021. Over the years he has taken great pride and pleasure serving the local community and helping people with any concerns or issues they may have. The Mayor also serves as Chair of Licensing Committee and Vice Chair of Planning Committee.
During his year in office the Mayor has chosen three charities to support:
- Milly’s Smiles, a local group that works to support children newly diagnosed with a cancer-related illness;
- Jeffrey’s Battle with Battens Disease, a crowdfunded effort to help a little boy keep going despite his illness;
- Accrington Stanley Women FC, who serve as an admirable source of female empowerment for all.
The Mayor has been married to his wife, Jean, for 54 years and has three children and two grandchildren. Jean will support the Mayor in his year in office as his Mayoress. The Mayor and Mayoress are both humbled by this opportunity, having both thoroughly enjoyed their year as Deputy Mayor and Mayoress, and they pledge to work to the best of their abilities to serve the community in every way that they can.
