Meet the Mayor of Hyndburn
Councillor Mike Booth, was elected as Mayor of Hyndburn for the Municipal Year 2024-2025 at the Council’s AGM on Thursday 23rd May 2024.
The Mayor has been a resident of Barnfield since 1977 and was elected as a Councillor there in 2023.
After gaining degree qualifications in history, sociology and psychology from Lancaster University, Mike began a career in secondary education from 1971 until 1998 and then moved into lecturing at the University of Cumbria until his retirement in 2012.
Mike was married to his wife Lynne Booth for 46 years, until her death in 2017. They have two daughters, Melanie and Stephanie, and one granddaughter, Emily.
Councillor Booth is a local historian who writes and researches for four publications. Mike enjoys rugby, having played for Rossendale RUFC in the 1970s, and all things historical; antiques, genealogy, church architecture, archaeology, woodworking and is an avid reader of non-fiction.
The Mayor will be supported during his Mayoral year by his Mayoress, Ms Christine Sollis. Their chosen charities to support during their year in office are still to be decided but these will focus on young people, people with disabilities and people who contribute to the well-being of the people of the townships.
