Heritage and Place

Brookside has a very rich history, with the invention of the Spinning Jenny in 1764, as well as coal mining, quarrying, calico printing, farming and other industrial links. Local people would like to protect and celebrate its industrial and agricultural heritage.

Here are some of the things that have been happening:

  • guided heritage walks
  • connections with the previous owner of Bury Meadows Farm
  • stories from people who have loved the site since childhood
  • research on features of interest

Here are some of our ideas and suggestions for the future:

  • energy and industry through the ages
  • study and heritage repair of the historic bridges along Lottice Brook
  • information boards for the historic features
