Brookside’s heritage is deeply rooted in the industrial, geological, and cultural history of East Lancashire. All across the site, you can see clues about the past, from capped coal mines to the old calico print works.
The Brookside Restoration Initiative will bring the past to life and highlight the transformation of Brookside from an industrial landscape to a site of nature recovery and climate action through:
- Heritage skills tasters such as dry stone walling and hazel coppice craft
- Restoration of existing heritage features on site
- Creation of a sculpture trail which tells the story of Brooksides industrial past and climate positive future.
- Co-designing future projects with local historians, museums, and heritage groups
